The Story Behind Each Box We Bake: Treats with a Purpose

There is a story behind every biscuit at Snappy Snacks. A reason.  A wag. Our treats are never only about the ingredients. They may be for a fussy dog, a dog with a sensitive stomach, or a dog who just deserved something better. They have to do with goals.

Today, we want to share the heart of the oven. Here's why every box we bake has a purpose and how your dog fits into the story.

1. The first thing was a sensitive stomach

We didn't begin our adventure at a factory. It all started with our dog Bow Bow  aka Boa Snappy Snacks CEO and her picky, easily upset tummy.

We made the rookie mistake of letting Bow Bow try some shop-bought dog treats  week. Big regret. Big. Huge. Within hours, she was doing the bum-scoot boogie and sprinting to the garden like it was a triathlon. Let’s just say… the back end was very productive.

Turns out, her sensitive tummy isn’t a fan of mystery ingredients, artificial flavours, or whatever that unpronounceable thing on the label was (seriously, what even is propylhexastabilo-who-knows?).

It was a not-so-gentle reminder of why we started Snappy Snacks in the first place — to keep Bow (and her bum) happy, healthy, and in full control of her bodily functions.

After that, we went to the kitchen.

We made our first batch of natural, homemade dog treats using a bowl of oats, a 100% peanut butter (now known as Puppynut Butter ) she gobbled them up.   Her stomach didn't growl. It was then that Snappy Snacks was born.

  2. Every recipe has a reason for being there

We don't make tastes only to fill shelves. A genuine dog often gave the idea for each Snappy Snacks combination.

🐾Ginger Wag is made for dogs who regularly have upset stomachs and windy bellies.   The ginger and carrot help calm digestion, while the coconut gives it more flavour.

🐾 Banana & Chia was inspired by our elderly rescue's .Chia seeds give omega-3s for joints, and bananas are easy to stomach. Healthy Champs was born

🐾 Blueberry Bow-Wow  Full of natural antioxidants that improve the shine of your coat and your immune system. cooked for a squirmy spaniel that is now shining.

We get ideas for our biscuits from other people's dogs.

  3. Small Batch, Big Importance

  Every bag is:

  •   Mixed by hand
  •   Rolled, cut, and cooked with care
  •   Put together by an actual person, usually while drinking tea.

We checked it out with our own eyes and noses, not machines. We don't believe in taking shortcuts. We believe that stories are worth thinking about.

  4. Only Function, No Filler

A lot of the treats you may buy focus on price, colour, or how long they last.
  We focus on

  • Good for your stomach recipes
  • Crunchy textures that dogs teeth

We also put thought into our packaging. It is recyclable, resealable, and clearly labelled and designed and made inhouse .

  5. The Dogs of the Snacks

Our customers are more than just orders. They’re part of the journey – the wagging tails, the wonky teeth, the sensitive tummies and the soulful eyes behind every biscuit we bake.

There is:

🐾 Hex – Inspired by our beloved girl, whose mischievous spirit and gentle heart live on in every bite. Naught But Nice was made for pups just like her – cheeky, sweet, and just a little bit rebellious.

🐾 Mabel – We completely avoided wheat because of Mabel’s allergies. One sniff of our wheat-free bakes and her tail wouldn’t stop wagging. She taught us that sensitive dogs deserve delicious treats too.

🐾 Buddy – After his first year of freedom, following adoption, Buddy received his very own birthday present: a bundle of Snappy Snacks, tail-wrapped and approved. His story reminds us why treats should feel like love.

🐾 Boa (aka Bow Bow) – The CEO of snack testing and queen of the slow chew. With a sensitive tum and a dramatic flair for the finer things, she’s the reason we keep things simple, gentle and full of goodness.

🐾 Hex (again, because she deserves it) – One time, she tried to steal a defrosting steak, leapt onto the kitchen counter and shattered the oven glass. She didn’t get the steak, but she did get a legacy biscuit recipe.

🐾 Luna – A rescue who’d been through a lot. Her new owner said she only wagged for one thing at first – a biscuit. Now she brings her human the treat tin when it's time. That’s why we bake with kindness.

Naturally, Bow Bow, aka Boa the CEO, continues to insist on tasting everything first. Every image, comment, and message we get changes the next baked good.

  6. You Are Part of the Story

Supporting Snappy Snacks entails more than just purchasing a treat

You are joining an increasing number of people who: 🐾 Give thought to what their dog eats 🐾 Opt for natural rather than artificial 🐾 Encourage small-batch, handmade baking 🐾 Feel that a dog biscuit should have a purpose.

It's vital to choose the right treat, whether it's for training, a birthday, or just to show someone you care.

  Final Note

There should be more to a good dog treat than just crunch.  It should connect, soothe, and nourish. We produce more than just biscuits at Snappy Snacks.  Better bellies are the reason we bake.  for puppies in need of rescue.  for dogs who are nervous.  for birthdays. For recollections.  For you.

Remember this the next time you open a box: each bite contains a little story

We thank you for being a part of ours.   🐾
